Making My Own Acquaintance is about finding self-love through self-portraiture. The project covers 6 months of creative exploration, confronting topics of body image, idealization and the feminine beauty ideal in a series of self-portraits. Documenting my artistic frustrations, shortcomings and eventual breakthroughs in the process, Making My Own Acquaintance positions failure as an integral part of growth.

By giving just as much (if not more) attention to the process work as the finals, I hope this project helps other creatives feel less discouraged by the ‘failure’ that leads to success. These past six months of examining self-portraiture in-depth have been so valuable, both personally and artistically. I am beyond excited to use the end of this project as a jumping off point to continue exploring myself as a subject in my work.
