DOGGY STYLE
With a playful approach, Doggy Style explores the prominence of dogs in fashion, status, identity and society throughout their rich history. Currently a digital book, Doggy Style highlights the codependent relationships owners share with their dogs in relation to identity and status throughout history, presenting fashion as a form of expression and reflection of the owner while showcasing the relationship between dogs and materialism. Through case studies and the visual analysis of historic and contemporary media, Doggy Style asks, “how has identity, status, image, fashion trends, and materialism impacted and intertwined with the codependent relationship between owner and dog?” Chapters within the book showcase the dog’s role within various aspects of culture; mythology and secularism, hunting and working, marital symbolism, sensuality, objectification and the male gaze, materialism, fashion and status, unconditional love and companionship, and creative portraiture. The creative exploration and curation of Doggy Style comes together to support the idea that the identity, image and aesthetic we curate for ourselves and extend onto our dogs fashionably communicates to others the depth of the relationship between owner and dog.
